UPAASF and Philippine Consulate welcomes VP Robredo

Nineteen months ago, the UP Alumni Association of SF in partnership with the Philippine Consulate hosted a neophyte Congresswoman from the 3rd district of Camarines Sur. It was her first official trip to America and at that time she was unsure of the future.

She would have chosen a much simpler life, but our good Lord laid out a different road map for her to travel.

Last August 7, our Association and the Consulate together with members of the FilAm community once again welcomed her, now as the 14th Vice President of the Philippines.

The VP was on a transit stopover on her way home from a speaking engagement in Philadelphia. She was met at the Kalayaan Hall by 200 1st & 2nd generation FilAms from all walks of life, representing a cross section of Philippine society, coming from many provinces -- all achievers from a broad spectrum of professions.

She deviated from a prepared speech and spoke of her personal trials on her journey to the Vice Presidency and how she got to meet Pdu30 for the first time.

And, barely a month in office, she is settling down to her new roles as Vice President, HUDCC Chairman and Cabinet member. A lot is on her plate. With our collective prayers and support, we know she will succeed and exceed expectations.

At the end of her talk, she said "Government cannot do it alone." as she rallied everyone to get engaged in turning things around for the nation.

We certainly wish her the best.
