PAEP Holds Forum with Bay Area Alumni

It was the second time for UP President Alfredo E. Pascual (PAEP) to meet the Bay Area alumni. It was July 18, 2014 and the venue was the Philippine Consulate newly renovated lobby with a panoramic video wall. UPAASF made sure it was a memorable and productive visit.

It was full day for him.

His morning began speaking to 24 FilAm students enrolled in a "first of its kind" summer cultural camp of UPAASF. He was one of the distinguished set of speakers invited which included Daly City Mayor David Canepa and Councilaman Ray Buenaventura. Inspired by his presence, the students asked intuitive questions such as "What does a UP education mean?" and "As a President, what do you do?" Echoing what "Scholars ng Bayan" should be, President Pascual encouraged the kids to get a good education, excel in what they want do and be role models in the community.

Next stop was a board meeting with the Friends of UP Foundation America (FUPFA) Inc. He met the board at the Tancinco Law Offices in San Francisco. There were new members added namely Ms. Gemma Nemenzo and Ms. Sonia Delen.

In the evening PAEP was greeted by 100+ UPians. The UP alumni groups present were from Sacramento, Fresno, the NorCal Nursing Association, Berkeley, Los Banos and San Francisco – the local chapter. To avoid traffic, members came early as 3 pm. Woodbury University President Dr. Luis Ma. Calingo who was in the Bay Area made sure he attended.

PAEP gave a comprehensive powerpoint presentation entitled "Padayon UP" (Onwards UP). It was a status report on the "State of the University" – and the various programs and accomplishments he has done. He summarized UP’s role in his catchphrase – "Shaping minds that shape the Nation." There is much at stake and UP cannot fail.

Godspeed ahead PAEP
