Chief Justice Sereno meets Bay Area FilAms

Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes P.A. Sereno met with the SF Bay Area FilAm community last Dec. 15, 2012 at the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco. Chief Justice Sereno, the youngest Chief Justice to be appointed, was on her way home from meetings with US Supreme Court Justices including US Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. in Washington DC. She was introduced to the group by Deputy Consul General Jaime Ramon Ascalon.

A UP Law '84 graduate and class valedictorian, the Chief Justice discussed the four pillars of her reform agenda namely a) Instituting integrity and restoring public trust and accountability b) Ensuring predictability, rationality, speed and responsiveness of judicial actions c) Improving systems and infrastructure d) Developing efficient and effective human resources. She called on the community which included members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) California Chapter and the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of San Francisco (UPAASF) to rally behind her initiatives.

Among those who came were prominent Bay Area lawyers such as Lou Ann Tancinco, May Anne Teodoro, Babes Ignacio, Dennis Mesina, Errol Zshornack and Eileen Tiro Basbas. Those from Los Angeles were Celia Del Rosario Prieto, Linda Fajardo and Richelda Diaz Llaguno and Julia Reyes. Mr. Gabby Moraleda, UPAASF president and Cyril Abiog also attended.

Chief Justice Sereno may well be one of the longest serving Chief Justice as she is scheduled to retire in 2030 – fourteen years after President Aquino steps down. She has her hands full. Let us wish her well.
